Prolonged World Cup fever’s negative effects on human health

KOLKATA, DEC 15 : The FIFA World Cup is going on and most of us are enjoying the enthralling LIVE matches on the screen of the Television, Mobile and our Laptops for long hours.

This addiction for the live matches can be detrimental for the overall human health.

Long hours in front of the TV or any other digital screen bears an adverse effect. It causes extreme strain on your eyes which is known as ‘Digital Eye Strain’. Nowadays, the majority of the population undergoes side effects of ‘Digital Eye Strain’, according to Dr Joyeeta Das, Consultant, Disha Eye Hospitals.

The ‘Digital Eye Strain’ leads to extreme headaches, Blurred Vision, Irritation in the Eyes, Redness and Gritty Sensation and Excessive Tearing

Apart from all of these, the Sleep Deprivation during the midnight match disturbs the human body’s normal homeostasis which directly affects eye health along with the other systems like heart and nerves. It may cause severe Dry Eyes, Dark Circles and Puffiness of Eyelids.

“While we remain engrossed in the fascinating moments of the currently running Football World Cup, this high quotient entertainment secretly causes damage to a normal and a healthy human being. With each passing moment of the running Football Match there’s an extreme excitement and eagerness that prevails in the brain and heart of an ardent watcher, according to Dr P S Karmakar, Consultant,Techno India DAMA Hospital

He said the soulful divulgence of a Football fan and his unlimited cheers and anxiety from the beginning to till the end of the game leads to an acceleration of the normal impulse rate of a Human Heart. This mixed moment of sheer anxiety and excitement results in secretion of a particular kind of Hormone inside a human body. This hormone is titled as Adrenaline, its secretion into a living body carries adverse effects.

Adrenaline secretion affects a healthy human heart. It increases the pace of the heartbeat to an abnormal measure or a very strong pounding of a heartbeat. This condition in the concept of Medical Science is termed as heart palpitation, Dr Karmakar said.

He said when a normal individual’s heart undergoes through a state of heart palpitation the demand of the percentage of intake oxygen rises among the heart muscles. The situation might turn into a worst and in fact a threatening phase when a spectator is an aged human since the internal organs of such a living body functions at a fatigued pace.

With aging, the heart arteries turn quite thin and there’s no sufficient supply of blood inside the heart muscles. In this case if over excitement and anxiety is imposed on the heart then it might fail to meet the demand of the required huge amount of intake oxygen as there’s already a deficit in the normal amount of oxygen which needs to be available, Dr Karmakar said.

He said this situation results in a mild to a severe and an unbearable chest pain. There can also be
a jeopardy of acute heart attack, especially dominant among the heart patients.

To avoid such adversities, a healthcare expert’s opinion states some imperative duties and measures which first includes a mandatory ignorance towards such mere enjoyments which costs life risk. It is best to avoid such enjoyment or do so in moderation so that there are no medical complications,
Dr Karmakar added.(UNI)
