Tripura Gramin Bank has established 101 Business Correspondence Centers.
AGARTALA, 29 NOV: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha unveiled 101 Tripura Gramin Bank(TGB). Business Correspondence (BC) centres on Tuesday in an effort to increase access to banking services for the rural population.
According to Dr. Saha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed the entire landscape of financial transactions by bringing transparency to the economy. Over the past few years, digital modes of operation have also gained popularity. People have also grown accustomed to the system and preferred to join the banking system.
Accordingly, banks have established branches even in villages, and the quantity of local and nationalised bank branches in cities and towns has also expanded as a result of the government’s financial inclusion programme, according to Dr. Saha.
However, due to the population issue, opening a bank branch often becomes impractical, which is where the idea of BC Centre emerges. According to TGB Chairman Satyendra Singh, TGB is the main bank in Tripura and is doing a good job of carrying out the initiatives of the state government and servicing the people of the state. It has also added 101 BC Centers to its existing 222 BCs, which include 33 Bank Sakhis (volunteers).
Throughout addition to BCs, the TGB currently runs 17 Ultra Small Branches, 148 branches, and a Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in the state.
The bank has risen to become one of the top Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in the nation during the past three years, and as of March this year, its overall business increased by 2.50%, totaling Rs. 10530.77 Cr.
According to Singh, the TGB made the largest contribution of any Tripuran bank to social security programmes such as the PM Jan Dhan Account (48.72%), PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (35.81%), PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (46.51%), and Atal Pension Yojana (58.21%).
