Freezing temperatures in Kashmir, with Srinagar recording the coldest night at -2.2 degrees Celsius.

SRINAGAR, 29 NOV: Although Srinagar had the coldest night of the season on Tuesday with a temperature dip to minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, officials said freezing cold weather continues to tighten its hold over the Kashmir valley.

According to the weather forecast from the meteorological department, it is mainly clear in most of Jammu and hazy in most of Kashmir. Until December 7, the weather is expected to be generally dry with no significant snowfall predicted.

The temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, dropped to – 2.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is significantly colder than the minus 1.8 degrees Celsius recorded the night before. During this time of the season, it was – 1.3 degrees Celsius colder than usual.

The majority of Srinagar, including Dal Lake, Boulevard Road, Nihat, Shalimar, and other areas, were covered in dense fog today due to the foggy weather.

The coldest location in Kashmir Valley was the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir, where the minimum temperature dropped to minus 4.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday from minus 4.0 degrees Celsius the night before. 

In the valley of shepherds, the temperature was 0.8 degrees Celsius below average for this time of year.

The temperature at the Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir dropped to minus 1.5 degrees Celsius from minus 1.0 degrees Celsius the day before, which was 1.6 degrees colder than usual for this time of year in the Meadow Valley.

Tuesday’s low temperatures in Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara were minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, minus 1.8 degrees Celsius in Quzigund on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, minus 0.1 degrees in Kukernag, and minus 0.1 degrees in Kukernag, according to the MeT office. (PHN)
