Ujjain, Mar 1 : A Guinness record was scripted in this ancient temple town on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri when 11,71,078 earthen lamps simultaneously illuminated Ram Ghat, Dutt Akhada, Narsingh Ghat, Guru Nanak Ghat and Sunhari Ghat along the Kshipra. Local residents began lighting the ‘diyas’ at 1842 hrs and power supply to the areas was halted five minutes later. Counting commenced at 1853 hrs and Guinness World Records representative Nischal Barot subsequently announced the achievement that surpassed Ayodhya. A wave of joy swept across the riverbanks and a fireworks display followed. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was present with his spouse Sadhna at Ram Ghat. The couple lit 15 lamps that they had brought from Bhopal.(UNI)
