Cong to resume Mekedatu padayatra from Feb 27

Bengaluru, Feb 19 : Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah Today said that the party would resume ‘Namma Neeru, Namma Hakku’ padayatra demanding early implementation of Mekedatu project from February 27 onwards. The Padayatra, which was called off midway after several Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge had contracted Covid, will resume from Ramanagara district and culminate in the city on March 3. The Padayatra will reach Bengaluru on the fifth day and culminate at the Basavanagudi National College Grounds, Siddaramaiah said. “The Bengaluru-phase of the march will be led by Ramalinga Reddy,” he said. The project is a bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Congress had begun the yatra on January 9 at the Sangama. After covering a distance of 60 kms, the Congress leaders decided to temporarily call off the 100-km march after Karnataka High Court rapped the government for its inaction and Congress for defying the government order banning the padayatra. Taking cognisance of the Court order, the government decided to take stern action against GO violation to stop the spread of Covid in the state. (UNI)
