RJD releases list of 20 candidates for Council elections

Patna, Feb 13 :RJD on Monday announced the names of 20 candidates while one seat would be contested by CPI of the 24 seats of Bihar Legislative Council from local bodies quota where elections are scheduled to be held. President of Bihar RJD Jagadanand Singh, while releasing the list of 20 candidates of his party for Bihar Legislative Council elections, said one seat had been left for the CPI. No candidate was declared for the remaining three seats. Singh, to a query whether three seats were left for the Congress, evaded a direct reply, saying candidates of the Grand Alliance would be fielded for the three remaining seats as well. Any change in regime at the Centre had always originated from Bihar in the past and Congress should acknowledge this fact, he noted. RJD leader said that support of his party would be vital for Congress to return to power, as earlier stated by the leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav. It is being assumed as a clear signal for Congress to support RJD candidates in Council elections. Singh, to a query on not a single Dalit (oppressed) candidate fielded by RJD said that council election from local bodies quota was different from Bihar Assembly Elections. Elections for 24 seats from local bodies quota covered the entire geographical area of Bihar, he noted. RJD leader said that selection of candidates had been done from those who expressed their willingness to contest. It was not based on Dalit, Women or any other factor, he further said, adding that such factors were taken into consideration for the selection of candidates in Assembly elections. It is being presumed in the political circle that RJD has left three seats for Congress. No leader of Congress, however, has made any comment on the issue as yet.(UNI)
