623 candidates in fray for first phase of UP assembly polls

Lucknow, Jan 27 : A total of 623 candidates are in the fray for the first phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh where polling is scheduled for 58 seats on February 10 in the western part of the state. On the last day of withdrawal of nominations today, 35 candidates withdrew their papers, ECI sources here on Thursday said. A total of 810 candidates had filed their nominations in which papers of 152 were rejected in the scrutiny. In the first phase highest number of candidates of 15 each are in Mathura and Muzaffarnagar while 14 each are in Ghaziabad, Dadri, Bah and Itmadpur assembly segments. Lowest of 6 each candidates are in the fray from Baraut and Baldev assembly seats. Meanwhile in the second phase of nominations in 55 seats where polling is scheduled on February 14, now 412 nomination have been filed till now with 260 nominations submitted today. Tomorrow is the last day for filling of nominations in the second phase. In the third phase of nominations in 59 seats , where polling will be held on February 20, now 42 nominations have been filed so far with 41 submitted today. In the fourth phase of nominations which commenced today ,14 candidates have filed their papers. (UNI)
