Maldives reiterates ‘India First’ policy in Republic Day message
Male/New Delhi, Jan 26 :The Maldives government Today reiterated its India First policy in a Republic Day message by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, who said the ties between the two nations has grown even stronger under the leadership of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a video message on the occasion of India’s Republic Day, he said: “For 73 years the constitution of India has provided a framework of governance and guaranteed rights to over a billion people comprising the world’s largest democracy. “This monumental achievement provides inspiration and hope to countries all over the world undertaking their own democratic journeys. “As India rejoices, I take the opportunity to reflect on the strong partnership between our two countries, a partnership rooted in our longstanding historical ties and strengthend in modern times through our active bilateral cooperation. “The many gestures of goodwill, humanitarian assistance and friendship, provided by the Govt of India is a true testament to the special partnership between the Maldives and India “This bond has grown even stronger under the leadership of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and PM Narendra Modi. “The Govt of Maldives appreciates India’s Neighbourhood First policy and we will continue to uphold an India First policy, which has worked to the mutual benefit of both our countries. “I take this opportunity to extend greetings of the occasion, and my deepest appreciation to Minister of External Affairs Dr Jaishankar for his unwavering support to enhancing our bilateral ties.” He also extended good wishes to Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar and the officials of the Indian High Commission and Indians living in the Maldives. “I wish continued peace, progress and prosperity for the friendly people of India,” he said. The Foreign Minister’s reiteration of the India First Policy comes as former President Abdulla Yameen, who is unabashedly pro-China, has been drumming up an “India Out” campaign.(UNI)
