Chennai, Jan 12 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi Today  announced allocation of Rs 3,000 crore over the next five years to Tamil Nadu to address the critical gap in health infrastructure.

In his address after inaugurating a record 11 new medical colleges on a single day in a single state in Tamil Nadu via video-conferencing from New Delhi, he said due to various reforms brought by the Centre, money spent on medicine by the people has come down greatly.

He also announced that sanitary napkins are being provided to women at a cost of Re one and urged the people of Tamil Nadu to take full advantage of various schemes announced by the Centre.

The Prime Minister said in a bid to address the critical gap in health infrastructure, especially at district levels, a support of over Rs 3,000 crore would be provided to Tamil Nadu in the next five years.

“This will hep in setting up urban health and wellness centres, district public health labs and critical care blocks across the state. The benefits of this for the people of Tamil Nadu will be immense”, he added.

“In the coming years, I envision India going to districts as destination for quality and affordable healthcare care. India will become a hub for medical tourism”, Modi said.(UNI)
