Gravest security breach in history: Ex IPS officers to President
New Delhi, Jan 6 :Twenty seven IPS officers including 16 Director General of Police have shot off a letter to President Ramnath Kovind requesting him to take urgent action against the ‘intentional and planned security lapse’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab Wednesday.
The move has come hour after President Ramnath Kovind expressed serious concerns in a meeting with the Prime Minister in the capital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was stuck on a flyover for about 15-20 minutes en route to Ferozepur in Punjab when protesters blocked the road on Wednesday afternoon.
The Home Ministry took serious note of the incident and sought a detailed report on the security breach which forced the PM to cut short his visit and return to the capital.
The group of IPS officers is led by Punjab’s former DGP PC Dogra and Maharashtra’s former DGP Praveen Dixit.
“We, the former Police Officers, having devoted our life time to serve in different capacities all over India, are surprised to the happening in the border State of Punjab when the journey of the Prime Minister on a scheduled visit was interrupted by a crowd of protestors blocking the road was not only a sheer lapse of security but a shameful open display of collusion of the state machinery with the so called protestors to embarrass and harm the Prime Minister,” the letter read.
The officers further wrote that the gravity of the incident and its national and international repercussion forced them to approach him to take appropriate action and that the ‘stoppage of the PM showed poor law and order in Punjab and threatened the democracy in our country’.
Talking to UNI, former Maharashtra DGP Praveen Dixit, said, “Elections are going to be announced soon, we expect that no such lapses take place in any state where polls are set to take place. There will be a considerable movement of significant VVIPs, so all precautions must be taken with extraordinary sincerity.”
Further the IPS officers wrote in the letter, “The media reports clearly show that it is not only a casual approach displayed by the State Government but there appears to be a clear involvement of the State functionaries which has resulted in this horrific incident of security breach… it has never happened in the history of this nation that the State agencies are making one or the other excuse and there are contradictory statements even at the level of the Chief Minister.”
The officers also took note of the videos circulated on social media wherein policemen were found to be enjoying tea with the protesters.
“The videos on television channels and in the print media clearly show that no senior police officer was present on the spot. Rather surprisingly the police officials, instead of making efforts to remove the so called protestors, were only enjoying tea, which betrays their intentions. By evening, we were more surprised as the video clips which were shown in the media, clearly indicate a bigger conspiracy which requires detailed and fair investigation. This is one of the gravest security lapses in the history of this country committed through conspiracy and collusion,” the letter reads.
The IPS officers further said that the recent IED Blast at District Courts at Ludhiana and an involvement of an Ex-cop of the State of Punjab and others shows the seriousness of the matter and the security situation in the state of Punjab.
The officers demanded an immediate action on the matter adding it has serious bearing on the national security.(UNI)
