Hyderabad, Jan 6 : Telangana Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivas Rao Today  said Omicron variant is six times faster than the Delta variant in terms of transmissibility.
In view of this, people in Telangana should take extreme precautions in the coming weeks,he told reporters here.

He said that the state witnessed four-time rise in COVID-19 cases with the positive rate going up from one per cent to 3.5 per cent.

Dr Rao said that 70 per cent of COVID infections in the state are due to the Omicron variant, while the Delta variant too was continuing in some parts of Telangana and therefore people should be very cautious.

The third wave driven by Omicron would peak by end of the current month and would wade away by middle of February, he added.(UNI)
