Over 3,000 caught for drunk driving in Hyderabad on New Year eve

Hyderabad, Jan 2 : Over 3,000 persons were caught for Drunk Driving (DD) as part of the special drive conducted across three commissionerate limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda on the eve of New Year.
Maximum cases were booked under Cyberabad Commissionerate limits followed by Hyderabad and Rachakonda Commissionerate limits , according to traffic authorities here on Saturday.
To prevent road accidents and other untoward incidents on the New Year eve, the traffic police department has formed over 250 teams to conduct the drunk and drive checks in three Commissionerate limits.
Besides booking cases against those caught for driving under the influence of alcohol and for violating traffic rules, the traffic police also seized several two-wheelers, cars and auto-rickshaws.
The DD cases u/s 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, booked against drunk drivers will be produced before the court in due course of time after filing chargesheets, the authorities said.
In pursuant to the High Court directions, the city police had earlier appealed to the public not to drink and drive, They have clearly stated that check-posts will be set up at every point to conduct checks on motorists and there will be extra patrols for the night.
Most of the cases were reported from Kukatpally, Gachibowli, Madhapur and Miyapur areas.(UNI)
