Preservation, promotion of art, culture given importance in NEP : Ravi
Chennai, Jan 1 : Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi today said
preservation and promotion of art and culture have been given
considerable importance in the New Educational Policy (NEP).
Inaugurating the Mega Isai Vizha (Season-5) organised by Tamil
Cultural Academy here, he highlighted the significance of Tamil
culture in defining India.
“The beauty of our culture in lies in the fact that it is rooted in our
spirituality”, he said.
Recollecting how during the period of colonisation, the British did
their best to ruin our culture and spirituality as a matter of their
policy and how they could not succeed because like our spirituality,
Mr Ravi said “our culture is eternal and indestructible.”
The Governor highlighted the significance of the month in which
the Isai Vizha is being organised in the auspicious month of Tamil
month Margazhi which is divine as stated by Lord Krishna in
Bhagavat Gita and the month in which our state is immersed in
devotion.
He explained how the expression of our culture from Kanniyakumari
to Kashmir and Kutch to Kamrup though apparently diverse are
rooted in the shared spirituality of Bharat.
“That is the reason that our Mahakavi Bharathiyar who admired, called
himself Bharathi”, Mr Ravi said, adding, preservation and promotion of
art and culture have been given considerable importance in the NEP so
as to build a self-reliant India rooted in self-esteem.
He also congratulated the Tamil Cultural Academy for their outstanding
service in preserving and propagating our culture which is a legacy of
several thousand years being passed on from generations to generations.
He brought out the need to build more cultural universities and academies
in the country.
The Governor congratulated and conferred awards to the artists and dancers
who came from all other parts of our country to perform their best in the function.(UNI)
