Maruti Suzuki sales 4 pc to 1,53,149 units in Dec’ 21
New Delhi, Jan 1 : Reflecting the impact of the persisting supply constraints of chips, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Today reported total sales of 1,53,149 vehicles in December 2021, a four per cent fall from the total sales of 1,60,226 units in December 2020.
“The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles during the month. The shortage primarily affected the production of vehicles sold in the domestic market,” the company said in a statement.
In December 2021, the domestic sales (passenger vehicles+ light commercial vehicles+OEM) slipped 13 per cent to 1,30,869 units as against 1,50,288 units in December 2020. Maruti’s total sales in the month include domestic sales of 126,031 units of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles compared to the 146,480 units of the same sold in December 2020. The sales to other OEM was of 4,838 units in December 2021 as against 3,808 units in the same month last year and the company’s highest ever monthly exports were to the tune of 22,280 units in December 2021 as against 9,938 units shipped out in the same month of 2020.
“The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact, MSI added. Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell 35 per cent to 16,320 units as compared with 24,927 in the same month last year. The compact segment sales including that of Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, slumped 11 per cent to 69,345 units as against 77,641 cars in December 2020.
