Brasilia, Dec 1: Brazil has confirmed two cases of Omicron Covid-19 variant, the first reported case in Latin America.

NHK World quoted the government of Sao Paulo has reported that a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman tested positive for the Omicron variant.

The two infected persons had come to Brazil from South Africa on November 23. They tested Covid-19 positive on November 25 at Guarulhos international airport as they tried to return to South Africa.

Further tests confirmed it was the Omicron variant, NHK World reported.

Brazil has imposed restrictions on entry from South Africa and five other southern African nations on Monday.
