Madras HC CJ-designate Munishwar Nath Bhandari arrives, to take oath tomorrow

Chennai, Nov 21 : The Madras High court Chief Justice designate Mr.Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari arrived here Today.

Mr Justice Bhandari, who succeeds Justice Sanjib Banerjee, will take oath as CJ tomorrow.

Tamil Nadu Governor RVN Ravi will administer the oath of office at the Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan in which Chief Minister M K Stalin, his Cabinet colleagues, Judges and other officials will participate.

Justice Bhandari, who is the second senior-most judge of the Allahabad HC, was posted as the Chief Justice of Madras HC, following the transfer of CJ Sanjib Banerjee who was transferred to Meghalaya High Court on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium on November 16.

Significantly, Justice Bhandari would become the senior most judge of the Madras HC.

After Mr Sanjib Banerjee left for Meghalaya, Justice M.Duraiswamy has been holding the post as the acting Chief Justice.

It may be recalled that Justice Sanjib Banerjee’s transfer had triggered a row controversy with more than 230 lawyers and senior advocates, alleging victimisation, dashing of separate petitions to the Supreme
Court Collegium urging it reconsider its decision.(UNI)
