Ganja smuggling under guise of cattle feed; Lorry with 1,000 kgs ganja seized in EG agency

Kakinada, Nov 8 :The East Godavari police in the agency area have successfully busted the ganja rocket that was involved in clandestine transportation of Ganja from Odisha forests to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh by seizing a lorry loaded with 1,000 kgs of Ganja near Gollagudem junction under Mothugudem police station limits in chintur mandal in the wee hours Today.
Two motorcycles piloting the lorry were also seized. Total of five people – three motorcycle riders and two in the lorry were arrested and a cash of Rs.5,000 and seven cell phones were also seized from their possession. Disclosing the interesting facts about the seizure at a press conference at the district police office here in the afternoon,, superintendent of police M.Ravindranath babu said the smugglers choose alternate routes and new methods for moving the ganja from Odisha with the East Godavari police spreading their dragnet and crushing the smuggling with iron hand.`
In this case, the smugglers moved the ganja stocks over head loads, engaging the tribals from Odisha forests and loading them into lorries in the interior border areas. From there the ganja was loaded under the guise of cattle feed so as to escape the police check. Four persons on two motorcycles had piloted the lorry but the police , on intelligence information ,intercepted the motorcycles and the lorry as well on the outskirts of Godlagudem.
On noticing the police one of the four persons piloting the lorry on motorcycles jumped and disappeared into darkness. The lorry driver and the smuggler in the cabin , along with three motorcycle riders were arrested.
The value of the seized ganja in the international market will be around Rs. 1 Crore’ he added.. SP Ravindrantha babu further said that during the last three months alone , the East Godavari police had seized Ganja worth over Rs. 6 Crores.
He said the vigil was intensified and new strategies were evolved to curb the Ganja smuggling activity. He said the round the clock vigil was kept on movement of vehicles not only on the highways but also on rural routes and the entire police department was working with the sole aim of declaring the district as ganja free and hoped to achieve success with the public support. Of the five arrested , Manmohan Patel(50) and Mohammed Harren(28) are from Madhya Pradesh while Rabin Mandal(300, Amrutha biswas(24) and Basudeb mandal (32) are from Odisha state. All are being sent to judicial remand’, the SP added.
Additional SP administration Karanam kumar, CRPF 42 battalion second in command G.Senthil Kumar, SEB additional SP A. Ramadevi, Chintur ASP G Krishna Kanth, Chintur CI G Yuvakumar and Mothugudem SI Sathibabu were among those attended.
Later the SP presented appreciation certificates to the Chintur sub division team that participated in the special operation.(UNI)
