Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 16 : Kerala reported 7,955 fresh COVID positive cases and 57 deaths today, thus showing no respite from rising number of COVID cases and deaths in the state.

About 11,769 people recovered from the disease on Saturday, a press release from the health department said this evening.

Meanwhile, 57 recent deaths were also reported on Saturday from COVID, thus taking the death toll in the state to 26,791.

About 79,722 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Currently 3,14,640 people are under observation in the state, 3,04,170 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 10,404 in hospitals.

In hospitals, 713 people who tested positive for COVID were admitted on Saturday. Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 10 in 211 wards, where strict restriction have been imposed.

In the last 24 hours, COVID was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified in the state.(UNI)
