S-400 missile system to be inducted in IAF by year end: IAF Chief

New Delhi, Oct 5 : Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhari today said the S-400 missile system, one of the most advanced weapon systems in the Russian inventory, would be inducted in the force by the end of this year.

Asked about the induction of the S-400 anti-aircraft weapon system, which uses three different missiles to cover its entire performance envelope, the IAF chief said it was likely to be inducted in the Force by the end of this year.

“S-400 delivery is on track. The first regiment should be inducted within this year,” Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari said.

The missile system has the capability to destroy incoming hostile aircraft, missiles and even drones at a distance of 400 km and at an altitude of up to 30 km.

India and Russia inked a deal for supply of five S-400 missile systems in October 2018, worth US$ 5.43 billion.(UNI)
