Stock market closes in red, Sensex sheds 78 points

Mumbai, Sep 22 : The stock market closed in red territory today, with Sensex shedding around 78 points while Nifty 15.35 points.

After a choppy session, the 30 share BSE Index lost 77.94 points or 0.13 per cent at 58,927.33 while NSE Nifty slipped 15.35 points or 0.09 per cent to 17,546.65.

Among the pack of 30 stocks at BSE, HDFC, Nestle, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever were among the top draggers while Tech Mahindra, Mahindra and Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Bajaj Auto, Reliance, Tata Steel were among the top gainers.

At NSE, Coal India, Tech Mahindra, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra were among the top gainers while Nestle India, HDFC, ICICI Bank, ONGC, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever were among the top gainers.

All sectors ended in green except FMCG. Realty index jumped eight per cent. BSE small cap rose 326.98 points or 1.19 per cent to close at 27,856.10 while small cap gained 374.42 points or 1.51 per cent to close at 25,166.54.

The Sensex, which opened at 59,166.15, registered day’s high and low at 59,178.44 and 58,878.38 respectively.

Similarly, the Nifty, which opened at 17,580.90, recorded day’s high and low at 17,610.45 and 17,524.00 points respectively.(UNI)
