SpiceJet staff refuses to work at Delhi airport over dues, airline says issue settled

New Delhi, Sep 3: Protesting against salary delays and other pending dues, dozens of SpiceJet staff Today refused to work at the Delhi airport.

The airline staff, however, later joined work after an assurance from the management about addressing their issues.

An airline source said the management team led by its Chief Security Officer (CSO) and one of the senior Vice Presidents (VPs) has assured the employees that their issues will be sorted out by Wednesday.

“The issue with a section of SpiceJet employees at the Delhi airport has been resolved and the employees have returned to work. SpiceJet’s flight operations remain normal,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.

Days back, an ex-pilot of the airline had alleged violation of safety norms and went public with his letter on the issue. This was, however, refuted by SpiceJet which asserted that it maintained high safety standards.

The airline source said their key demands to the management included clearing of pending dues, restoration of salary cut, and payment for overtime.

Hit hard by the pandemic, low-cost carrier SpiceJet has reported a net loss of Rs 729 crore for the quarter ending June 2021 as against a net loss of Rs 593 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. (UNI)
