Marathwada gets good rain this year

Aurangabad, Jul 30:Marathwada, typically a drought-prone region in Maharashtra, has received above normal rainfall this year.
According to the official update of the major dams of the region, Manar and Vishnu Puri projects situated in Nanded district filled up 93 and 91 percent respectively followed by the Nimma Dudhana of the river of Dudhana in Parbhani district presently maintaining 83 percent livestock as well as Khadaka Bandhara have already replenished early this July.
While another of projects Yeldari in the same district also having 73 percent livestock, Sidheshwar project in Hingoli district which was constructed as a storage water body for Yeldari has surprisingly received more stock due to heavy rains in catchment areas than the mother dam and maintaining 80 percent livestock, Penganga dam in this division has also recorded 66 percent water stock.
Majalgaon and Manjra are situated in the Beed district and holding nearly 32 and 22 percent respectively.
Nimma Terna and Sina Kolegaon in Osmanabad district recorded 56 and -3 percent stock.
Shahgad Bandara situated near Jalna also filled with its full capacity, they stated.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest dams Jayakwadi known as the lifeline of the Marathwada region situated near the holy town of Paithan in Aurangabad district has only 37 percent livestock which is 9 percent less than the previous year. Insufficient storage at this dam has triggered concerns in the agriculture and industrial sectors.
The dam irrigates more than several thousand of acres farmland in three districts.
It also sources water to several industrial townships in Aurangabad and Jalna. Also feeding drinking water to several towns and villages throughout the year, besides Aurangabad & Jalna cities. The scarcity of rain in the Godavari river basin in Nasik district is the prime reason since Jayakwadi is dependent fully on this source.(UNI)
