NC pays tributes to 1931 martyrs at party headquarters

Srinagar, Jul 13 : After being disallowed to visit July 13, 1931 martyrs graveyard in the downtown Srinagar, the National Conference (NC) leaders, including former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah paid tributes to them at the party headquarters Today.

Besides NC president, several other party leaders offered fateha to the martyrs at Nawai Subha party headquarter today, a party spokesman said.

He said the July 13, 1931 marks the assertion of Jammu and Kashmir’s identity and rights of its people. The Martyrs of July 13, will continue to be a beacon of light for us and for the coming generations.

‘We pay our humble tributes to the Martyrs, the heroes who laid down their lives and inspired millions to live with dignity. Their sacrifices will always be remembered. We observe this day to reiterate our commitment to fight evil with kindness’.

While recalling the sacrifice of the July13 martyrs, the leaders said the day is an important landmark in the history of Jammu and Kashmir which will never go out of sight. They said the implications of the day thickened over time and resulted in the transformation of the state from a feudalistic to a democratic one.

“The brave men who laid their lives on July 13, 1931 belonged to a generation of wisdom, and vision. They saw in darkness and despair, a vision for the forthcoming generations; they envisioned a society free from bondage, discrimination and oppression,” he said.

Former CM Omar Abdullah while paying tributes to the Martyrs said that the July 13 marks the collective defiance of the oppressed. “The day is the watershed moment in the people’s struggle for restoration of their universal human rights. It was their valor that inspired millions of others to rise against the then despotic and autocratic regime.

‘We observe the day to reiterate our commitment to fight evil with kindness, violence with non-violence and peaceful struggle. On this day, I pay my humble tributes to all the martyrs, who laid their lives for securing a dignified life for future generations,” he said.(UNI)
