GVL urges AP CM to withdraw the decision of changing the name of ‘Telugu Academy’

Vijayawada, Jul 12: BJP Senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to withdraw the decision of changing the name of ‘Telugu Academy’ to “Telugu-Sanskrit Academy”.

In a letter to Mr. Reddy here on Monday, Mr. Narasimha Rao said that the decision was taken by the state government to change the name of Telugu Academy to “Telugu-Sanskrit Academy” seems to be part of efforts in reducing the importance of the Telugu language.

“Development of ancient Sanskrit language is appreciable but it does not need to reduce the importance of the Telugu language in the activities of the Telugu Academy and your decision is detrimental to the Telugu language and culture of Telugu people and it will hurt the youth of the state for their future”, he said in the latter.

Mr. Rao alleged “Since you came to power, your government has taken many decisions to “downplay and undermine” the importance of Telugu Language”, adding that even the British did not dare to undermine the Telugu language when they ruled India. (UNI)
