Center should amend the constitution for Maratha Reservation, says Malik

Aurangabad/Mumbai Jul 2 : National spokesperson, NCP and skill development and minority minister Nawab Malik Today said the Centre should amend the constitution for reservations to the Maratha community.

If the Center does not want to give reservations, it should amend the constitution and give rights to the states.

In his official statement, Mr Malik said the state government will definitely give Maratha reservations and other reservations.

On Thursday, the apex court rejected the central government’s review petition in this regard. All the rights with the Central Government after the amendment in Section 102.

States have no right to grant Maratha reservation or SEBC category reservation. That is why the state government has demanded that the central government be empowered, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Malik also clarified that if the states are empowered by amending the constitution, the state government can take a decision whether there will be Maratha reservation and other reservations, but there is no alternative but to amend the constitution,he added.(UNI)
