Flesh trade: one held, teenager rescued in Mah

Palghar , Jun 22 : The AHTC officials of the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate arrested a 35-year-old woman and rescued a 16-year-old girl from being pushed into flesh trade.

PI Bhaskar Phukale of the AHTC said that the police received a complaint from an NGO that a woman was about to push a 16-year-old girl into flesh trade for Rs 4 lakh.

As per the information, the woman was the victim’s aunt.

The police arranged for a decoy and trapped the woman who had come to a dhaba in Vasai of Palghar district on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway on Monday when the deal was being struck.

The police gave the name of the arrested accused as Geeta Thakur and added that offences under various sections of the IPC, POCSO Act and also PITA act has been registered against her.

After the victim had lost her mother, she was under the care of the accused who took the opportunity and wanted to push the girl into the flesh trade which was foiled by the police.

The preliminary reports stated that the accused was a bar girl, who worked in a local bar in Valiv of Vasai.(UNI)
