Panaji, Jun 19 : Shiv Sena North District Committee members planted coconut and other tree saplings at Monte de Guirim highway to mark 55th Foundation Day on Saturday.
Zilla Pramukh Sushant Pavaskar, Upa Zilla Pramukh Rajesh Patil, General Secretary Nanda Bhaidkar, Secretary Mehboob Nalban, Bardez Taluka Pramukh Vincent Pereira, IT cell cordinator Pratik Shirodkar, State Secretary Mandar Parsekar, Manoj Sawant were present.
While speaking to Media, Zilla Pramukh Sushant Pavaskar said,”Coconut trees were being cut during the construction of four lanning of highways. Some MLA’s had agitated opposing cutting of these trees and promised that if came to power, they will plant big Coconut tree palms with the help of new technology. On getting elected again and awarded Ministries they have forgotten about their promises. May after this plantation they remember what they promised and plant more coconut trees in this vicinity regaining lost glory..
IT cell Coordinator Pratik Shirodkar said lack of oxygen during pandemic crises had made them realise the importance of trees.
”Hope atleast now we plant more trees and don’t cut it in the name of development. Coconut trees here are not maintained properly and they have been dieyin a slow death. We will urge some of the companies to adopt it under CSR and give them life,” he said.
District Secretary Mehboob Nalban and State Secretary Mandar Parsekar also spoke on the occasion.(UNI)
