Goa Congress appoints Sandesh Khorhuvekar as Chairman of OBC Dept

Panaji, Jun 13 : The Congress in Goa on Sunday appointed Sandesh Narahari Khorhuvekar, Panchayat Member of Anjuna- Kaisuva Village Panchayat and former Block President of Siolim Youth Congress Committee, as the Chairman of OBC Department of State Pradesh Congress Committee.
The appointment was made All India Congress Committee (AICC) OBC Department after approval by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, M K Shaikh, Vice President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) said.
Sandesh Khorjuekar has been the member of Congress Party since 1999 and is involved in various social, sports and cultural activities.
OBC Department is the key organization of the Congress Party, with its reach among 19 communities in Goa which comprises of nearly 30% of the Goan population.
The main task before the new Chairman will be to bring political and social leaders of all 19 communities closer to Congress in view of the forthcoming assembly elections.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar expressed happiness over appointment of young and dynamic Sandesh Khorjuvenkar as Chairman of OBC Department and offered full co-operation to him to build the image of the party among backward communities.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Digamber Kamat expressed confidence in Khorjuekar’s appointment.
”I am sure that he will reorganise OBC Department and make it vibrant. With his long experience in party organisation Sandesh Khorjuenkar will be very effectivem,” he said.(UNI)
