COVID : 507 new cases, 9 deaths in UT

Puducherry, Jun 10 : Coronavirus infection cases continue to decline in the Union Territory with 507 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM, on Thursday as against 642 cases registered on Wednesday.
However, the number of deaths had gone up to nine during the period from the four yesterday.
According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 8,215 swab sample tests conducted on June 9, 507 people tested positive for the virus.
As many as 366 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 98 in Karaikal region, 20 in Yanam region and 23 in Mahe region.
About 646 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. Of them, 487 were from Puducherry region, 98 from Karaikal region, 29 from Yanam region and 32 from Mahe region.
Presently, 787 patients are being treated in Puducherry region,103 in Karaikal region, 47 in Yanam region and 61 in Mahe region. Another, 5,707 persons diagnosed positive and taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of the UT.
So far, 1,11,255 persons were infected by the Corona virus and of which 1,02,893 patients were treated and discharged, 1,657 people died and 6,705 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
Among the 9 fatalities, five are women and all succumbed due to Covid related issues. Seven of them died in Puducherry region and one each in Karaikal and Yanam regions.
The test positivity rate in the UT stood at 6.17 per cent, case fatality rate at 1.49 per cent and the recovery rate is 92.48 per cent.
As many as 3,02,851 persons including healthcare workers, frontline workers and general public were given Covid vaccine in the Union Territory so far.(UNI)
