Mah govt announces scheme for orphans losing their parents to COVID-19

Mumbai, Jun 2 : Maharashtra Cabinet Today announced a Rs 5 lakh scheme for orphan children who have lost their parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the announcement, the beneficiaries will those who have lost both parents from COVID-19 after March 1, 2020, or one parent from COVID-19 and another from some other illness. The eligibles should be 18 years of age or below.
Under the scheme, a lump sum deposit of Rs 5 lakhs will be made in the name of the orphan and will be received with interest after the child completes 21 years of age.
The plan is to provide substantial financial assistance so that the future of orphaned children does not remain under darkness.
A similar scheme, but of Rs 10 lakh, has also been announced by the central government under PM Cares. The Maharashtra government scheme will be in addition to the central government’s scheme.
The Cabinet also approved the launch of Sant Bhagwan Baba Government Hostel Scheme for the children of migrant sugarcane workers.
In the first phase, 10 separate hostels for boys and girls will be started. As the construction of new hostels will take time, initially, these hostels will be started in rented buildings.
The hostels will be set up in 41 talukas in 10 districts of Beed, Ahmednagar, Jalna, Nanded, Parbhani, Osmanabad, Latur, Aurangabad, Nashik and Jalgaon.
The Cabinet also approved to fill the post of Industry Inspector (Group C, Non-Gazetted) in the Directorate of Industries and Regional Offices from the Department of Industry, Energy, and Labor, through Maharashtra Public Service Commission.(UNI)
