No death should occur due to lack of oxygen: HC
Panaji, May 12 : The Bombay High Court at Goa on Wednesday said that no death should occur at Goa Medical College, state’s apex hospital, due to lack of oxygen.
According to Nikhil Pai, advocate for South Goa Advocates Association, one of the petitioners, the court wanted an assurance from the government that not a single death should occur due to lack of oxygen.
The court is hearing bunch of petitions which have alleged that there was mismanagement in the state’s efforts to tackle Covid 19 pandemic.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had claimed that 26 people had died in the Covid ward of Goa Medical College and hospital due to unavailability of oxygen on Tuesday night. However, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had rejected the claimed and insisted that the deaths occured due to mismanagement at the hospital.
Mr Pai said the matter would be heard on May 13, 2021, again to see what could be done to address shortage of oxygen.(UNI)
