Sitapur, May 9 :  Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MP Mohammad Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah Azam, who are currently lodged in Sitapur district jail were shifted a private hospital in Lucknow for Corona treatment.
The former UP minister and his Ex MLA son were admitted to to L-3 super speciality hospital Medanta, in Lucknow on Sunday.
The the father- son duo had tested positive for Covid on May 1 in the jail. The duo were among 15 other jail inmates, who had contracted the virus.
Jail officials here on Sunday said that based on the examination of a panel of doctors it was decided to send Rampur MP Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan to an L-3 level hospital in Lucknow and Medanta was decided for it.
It is reported that from Saturday afternoon thr oxygen level of Azam Khan has gone down to 90 which made the doctors to shift the Rampur MP to Medanta .
However, the authorities and senior SP leaders wanted Azam to be admitted in SGPGI but the MP himself wanted to be admitted in Medanta along with his son.
Prison officials said that Azam Khan and his son were sent to Lucknow escorted by an armed police vehicle.
Azam Khan along with his son and wife have been languishing in jail since February 2020.
However Azam’s wife has been released on bail a few month back.(UNI)
