Marathwada region registers 5,187 Covid cases, 149 fatalities

Aurangabad, May 10 : The Covid-19 situation continues to remain grim in the eight districts of the Marathwada region in Maharashtra as the region recorded the highest spike of 5,187 Covid positive cases and 140 fatalities during the past 24 hours, informed health authorities.

Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Beed district was the worst-affected as it recorded 1,273 new cases and 29 deaths, followed by Latur which had 954 cases and 29 deaths, Aurangabad had 759 cases and 22 deaths, Nanded had 337 new cases and 19 deaths, Jalna recorded 566 cases and 16 deaths, Parbhani had 462 cases and 12 deaths, Osmanabad registered 712 cases and eight deaths and Hingoli 131 cases and five deaths.

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 48,401fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, mounting the total number of infections to 51,01,737.

The state also registered 572 more deaths, taking the death toll to 75,809.

Meanwhile, a record 60,223 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 44,07,818.

The state’s recovery rate currently stands at 86.4 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.49 per cent.

At present, there are 6,15,783 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.



In view of the rising number of cases, the state government has extended strict restrictions in the state till May 15 under the ‘break the chain’ initiative.

Emergency services have been exempted.(UNI)
