Punjab Govt schools see increased student enrolledment
Hoshiarpur, May 2 : Due to the ongoing efforts of the Punjab government to make government schools up to date in all respects with modern facilities. the number of students in these schools in the district has increased by 11031 during the new session.
District Education Officer (Secondary) in a press release here this evening claimed that due to an all round upgradation in the standards of the government schools by the state government the student enrollment has gone up.
He said that 159,377 students had been enrolled in the government schools in the district up to end of April as compared to148,346 during the last sessionAs
As many as 11,031 more students had been enrolled in government schools from LKG to 12th standard during this session.
He said that 7.84 percent growth of students had occurred in government secondary schools.
The number of enrolled students had increased to 84,933 this year as compared to 78,761 during the last session.
A growth of 6.52 percent had been registered in the primary wing. The number of enrolled students from first to fifth class in government schools in the district was 69,585 in the last session which had increased to 74,444 during the new session.
8430 children had been enrolled in pre-primary classes.
He said that Block Dasuya-1 stood first in the district by securing a 10.15 percent increase in the overall growth of students whereas Block Hoshiarpur-I-A and Block Bulhowal secured second and third positions respectively.
He said that people from all walks of life have started preferring to admit their wards in government schools due to high standard of education and infrastructure available in these schools.
District Education Officer (Elementary) Er. Sanjiv Gautam said that the education department had run the admission campaign in the government schools in a well planned manner.
On the one hand education department is encouraging parents to enroll their children in government schools through traditional means such as street plays, songs, fairs, requests through religious places and door to door visits whereas on the other hand campaign was also carried out on TV, radio, social media, posters, pamphlets and flex printed banners etc.
A ‘School Darshan’ programme had also been launched to show the facilities being provided in government schools to the parents. Due to the aforesaid campaign a large number of students from private schools have been enrolled in government schools and the trend is still going on.(UNI)
