We never asked for 5-star Covid facility, Delhi HC on beds for judiciary in Ashoka hotel

New Delhi, April 27:The Delhi High Court on Tuesday clarified that it has never asked the Delhi government to make 5-star Covid arrangements for its Judges and officials and ordered the government to take corrective steps in terms of the order or else the court will quash it.

“This is very misleading, High Court has not made any such request and no communication was made in this regard, ” a division Bench of Justice VipinSanghi and RekhaPalli said as quoted by LiveLaw.

The Delhi government has reserved 100 rooms in the luxurious Ashoka Hotel in central Delhi for judges and other court staff for availing Covid facilities. The order drew criticism from the media and other organisations and people as it came at a time when common man in the national capital is running pillar to post for a Covid bed.

The court underlined that the order passed by SDM ChanakyapuriMsGeeta Grover was misleading as it states that “request has been made by the Delhi High Court for setting up a facility”.

“No such request was made by us that set up a facility at this hotel or that hotels. The purpose of the meeting was that Judiciary, particularly the Subordinate judiciary have to go to the Courts, have been infected and their families have been infected. We have already lost two Judicial Officers”

“All that we wanted was, in case they need admission, there may be some facility available. And that has been converted to such an order.” the court said.

“You don’t have oxygen, and you are talking about having 100 beds facility for us. It’s unfortunate.” Justice RekhaPalli said.

The court asked the Delhi government to file a reply.(UNI)
