COVID: 25,986 test +ve, 368 die in Delhi

New Delhi, April 28 :The National Capital on Wednesday registered a surge of 25,986 fresh cases of COVID-19 that were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the caseload to 10,53,701 while 368 people lost their lives.
As many as 81,829 people were tested in the past day while 17,862 people were cured and discharged taking the total recoveries to 9,58,792. The positivity rate declined slightly to stand at 31.76 per cent from Monday’s 35.02 per cent.
Currently, there are 53,819 COVID patients under home isolation across the city. The number of active cases is 99,752 which includes patients under home isolation. Containment zones also rose to 33,749.
Meanwhile, the government vaccinated 51,718 people in the last 24 hours out of which 32,272 beneficiaries received the first dose while 19,446 were administered the second dose. Till now, cumulatively, 31,01,562 people have received a vaccine jab in the national capital.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal convened a meeting with the health officials over the current situation and deliberated on the plan to increase the number of oxygen beds in the coming days, along with strengthening the home isolation system.
Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava also took stock of the situation. “Delhi Police is deployed in strength to implement lockdown. I went out in West Delhi. While police is doing its best to implement lockdown, every resident should ensure its success. Lockdown should be people’s responsibility for it to succeed, else only partly,” the Commissioner tweeted.(UNI)
