Police arrest 4, seize tiger skin

Thane, April 21: The city police on Tuesday arrested four persons all from Mumbai and seized from their possession stripped (black and yellow) tiger skin and also a paw containing five nails the police said.

Sr. PI Ganpat Pingle of the Kongaon police station of Bhiwandi zone told this correspondent that acting on a tip-off that some persons animal poachers were to come to Bhiwandi to sell the stipped tiger skin the police laid a trap.

They found the foursome arrive at the spot opposite a hotel at Thakurpada on the Nashik-Mumbai bypass and seized from them the skin and paw.

The police said that the value of the seized material was priceless and cannot be evaluated.

The police gave the names of the arrested as Prashant Singh, 21, Chetan Gauda, 23, Aryan Kadam, 23, and Aniket Kadam, 25 all from Mumbai.

An offense under the Protection of Wild Life Act has been registered against the arrested with the Kongaon police on Tuesday.

The local police who carried out the seizure with the help of the forest officials and War Rescue Foundation members are carrying out a further probe into the crime.

The police are now finding out from where they arrested the seized material and to whom they were to sell it off. (UNI)
