Three lab employees arrested for issuing bogus Covid-19 reports in Thane
Thane, April 21: Three employees of a lab have been arrested by police for allegedly issuing bogus Covid reports to the people of Bhiwandi town in the district.
On a tip-off, a team of Bhiwandi Crime Branch Unit No 2 on Tuesday raided the Mehfoos Clinical Laboratory at Gaibinagar Shantinagar and found that fake negative reports of RTPCR test were being distributed to the people, police said on Wednesday.
They also found that in the midst of the second wave of the Covid pandemic, the employees were using the forged letterhead of the well-known Thyrocare Lab.
The raiding team found that the Mehfoos Lab had so far issued around 64 fake RT-PCR reports.
They have seized laptops, computers, and mobile phones from the Mehfoos Lab for further investigation.
Police have arrested three accused — Aftab Mujibulla Khan (23, lab manager), Inam-Ul-Haque Sayyed alias Rabbani (31), and Mohd Sharik Sabir Sheikh (20, both lab technicians) — in this connection.
However, the main accused, Mehfoos Alam Khan (25, owner of the lab), is wanted and police are now searching for him.
An FIR (first information report) under sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 269, 270, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and other sections of the Infectious Diseases Prevention Act has been registered at Shantinagar police station against all accused persons. (UNI)
