Telangana logs 4,446 fresh COVID-19 cases, 12 fatalities until Friday night

Hyderabad, April 17 : Continuing the upward trend in daily COVID-19 cases, Telangana registered 4,446 fresh Coronavirus cases until 2000 hours on Friday, which is one of the highest single-day spikes, taking the total infection count to 3,46,331 so far.

In yet another high, the state recorded the current year’s highest 12 fatalities due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours pushing the overall death toll till date to 1,809 translating a case fatality rate of 0.52 per cent as against the countrywide mortality rate of 1.2 per cent, according to a state health department bulletin here on Saturday.

As many as 1,414 people have recovered from Coronavirus statewide to take the total number of recoveries so far to 3,11,008 constituting a recovery rate of 89.8 per cent while the National recovery rate of 87.2 per cent.

Currently, the number of active cases in the state stands at 33,514 including 22,118 individuals in home or institutional isolation, the bulletin said.

A total of 1,26,235 swab samples were tested in the state between Thursday and Friday to detect the contagious virus and out of which the reports of 6,336 swab samples are awaited.

Cumulatively, more than 1.16 crore COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The worst-hit Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, continuing to be the top contributor of the infection, reported the highest 598 new Coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours followed by Medchal Malkajigiri district (435), Rangareddy district (326),Nizamabad district (314), Sangareddy district (235), Kamareddy district (184), Jagityal district (180), Nalgonda district (168), Nirmal district (160) Karimnagar district (149), Khammam district (148),Mahabubnagar district (139),Warangal Urban district (136), Mancherial district (121) and Siddipet district (111).

The remaining COVID-19 cases have been registered by other districts, the bulletin added. (UNI)
