Sharmila’s hunger strike enters day two
Hyderabad, April 16 : The three-day hunger strike commenced by Y S Sharmila, daughter of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy, at her residence in Lotus Pond here, despite injuries to her arm, entered the second day on Friday.
On the first day on Thursday, the 47-year-old Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, started her hunger strike at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in the city, demanding the TRS government to release notifications for filling up 1.91 lakh job vacancies in the state.
Despite being given permission at Dharna Chowk by the police for a one-day hunger strike from 10 am to 5 pm, she wanted to continue her protest for two more days and sought permission but it was rejected by the police.
Later, Sharmila, along with her followers, had taken out a padayatra to her residence at Lotus Pond, and she detained by the police.
A scuffle ensued between the police and Sharmila’s followers and during the scuffle, she suffered injuries to her left arm.
Later, she was shifted to her residence at Lotus pond by the police where she continued her hunger strike protest despite sustaining injuries.
Several of her supporters also arrived at her residence and extended their solidarity to her.
Speaking at the hunger strike camp, Ms. Sharmila lashed out at Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for deceiving the youth by not releasing the job notifications.
She warned that things would not be so simple if she was hurt again.
Ms. Sharmila assured unemployed youth that she would continue her hunger strike for three days to pressurise the government to release notifications for filling up job vacancies.
At a recent public meeting in Khammam, she said she would float a political party in Telangana on July 8, to mark the birth anniversary of her late father Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy.
She also cautioned the government that protests and agitations will continue in various districts in the state until the government fill up the job vacancies. (UNI)
