Russel’s five-for restricts Mumbai Indians to 152
Chennai, April 13 : After a docile start, defending
champions Mumbai Indians, thanks to a five for by
medium pacer Andre Russel in two overs, lost their
way in the middle to be bowled out for 152 runs in
their 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders in their
IPL match here tonight.
Asked to bat first, MI lost Quinton De Kock, who came
back into the XI after finishing the quarantine period,
merely, but skipper Rohit Sharma and power hltting by
Surya Kumar Yadav, who scored a half century in 33 balls,
raised the hopes, but the middle order caved in to a
disciplined bowling by the KKR as the holders ended up
losing all the wickets.
In fact MI hass cored 81 runs at the half way stage for
the loss of jst one wicket, before the batsmen made a
mess of pacing the innings.
A fluent half century by Suryakumar Yadav only turned
out to be the only bright spot in the innings and some
contribution by the skipper Rohit Sharma on an other
wise miserable performance by the five time champions,
which is aiming for its six title and a hat-trick of titles.
Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 43 in 32 balls (3×4, 1×6)
and Yadav (56, 36 balls, 7×4, 2×6) added 76 for the
second wicket after the early exit of De Kock, but
the middle failed to consolidate as the champions
finished at a far below par score on a wicket which
assisted pace and also good for batting.
Andre Russell picked up five wickets in his two overs,
to trigger the collapse and ended up taking three wickets
in the final over.
