72nd Annual Day Celebrations of AMD held in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jul 29 :Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), a constituent unit of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) celebrated its 72nd Annual Day at AMD Headquarters here Today.
In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the programme was organised in a restricted manner, following the guidelines circulated by the Central and State Governments, an official release said here.
The main function was held in AMD Headquarters here, which was webcast over an online platform.
Several dignitaries, including the Chief Guest Rajendra Singh, AMD Former Additional Director, joined the celebrations through virtual mode while the Guests of Honour — K. Ramesh Kumar, Former Additional Director, AMD and A.S. Laxman Rao, Former Chief Administrative and Accounts Officer (CA&AO), AMD along with Dr. D.K. Sinha, Director, AMD and Additional Directors graced the occasion with their physical presence.
During the evening, Mamallan delivered a talk on ‘Status of heliborne and ground geophysical surveys by AMD’, which was followed by a talk on ‘Multidisciplinary collaboration research activities of AMD’ by Dr. T.S. Sunil Kumar.
Subsequently, Dr. D.K. Sinha, Director, AMD in his address highlighted the splendid contributions made by the retired officials and staff and the untiring and continued efforts of the present generation of AMD workforce in the sustained growth of the Directorate.
Portraying the history of AMD, Dr. Sinha stated that AMD emerged as Rare Minerals Survey Unit (RMSU) from the Geological Survey of India during the Second World War and was brought under the Atomic Energy Commission on July 29, 1949.
Continuous efforts by AMD have resulted in rapid augmentation of atomic mineral resources of the country, he said.
In conclusion, he expressed the commitment of the Directorate to continue the pursuit of excellence in the frontier areas of exploration and research for atomic minerals.
Later, the programme featured the announcement of awards for the best performing drilling units during 2019-20.
AMD has seven Regional Centres located at New Delhi, Bengaluru, Jamshedpur, Shillong, Jaipur, Nagpur, Cherlapally (Hyderabad); two Sectional Offices situated at Thiruvananthapuram and Visakhapatnam and all the field camps.(UNI)
