4,512 nominations accepted after scrutiny : Sahoo
Chennai, Mar 22 :A total of 7,255 nominations have been filed for the April six Assembly elections of which 4,512 were
accepted after scrutiny, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said on Monday.
For the bypoll to Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat a total of 23 nominations were filed of which 13 were accepted and
the remaining ten were rejected. The bypoll was being held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Congress MP H Vasanthakumar. His son Vijay has been given the ticket and he is pitted against senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Sahoo said a total of 7,255 nominations, including 6,183 men and 1.069 women and
three from third gender, have filed their papers for the Assembly polls.
After scrutiny, the nominations of 4,512 were found to be in order, while 2,743 papers were rejected.
Mr Sahoo said today being the last date for withdrawal of nominations, a final picture would be known after the
withdrawal process. He said a total of Rs 83.99 crore unaccounted cash have been seized by the IT and flying squad officials, besides liquor to the tune of Rs 1.70 crore were also seized across the State.
Mr Sahoo said the total electorate in Tamil Nadu went up from 6.21 crore to 6.29 crore, which included 3.09 crore
men, 3.19 crore women and 7,912 Third Gender.(UNI)
