Hamirpur (HP), Jan 5: 42 students of the local National Institute of Technology(NIT) were among those fifty-three people that were detected Corona positive in Hamirpur district Today,said a spokesman of the district health department.
Only two older cases were declared cured today.
However, no death was reported in the district today and the total number of fatalities in the district stood at 308.
He said that in total 496 samples were tested today out of which 53 were found to be positive. The number of total confirmed cases in the district has risen to 18,170 as against 17,762 cured/recovered cases.
Meanwhile, Prof. Lalit Awasthi, the Director of the NIT told UNI that most of the positive students had taken part in an NCC camp and it is likely that they were infected there.
He said that all the positive students had been put under isolation in the institution where an isolation camp was already established.
Prof. Awasthy said that he had told the students and their parents to see whether they wanted to go back to their homes or remain in the institution as the studies would be undertaken on online mode than offline mode.
He said that the management of the institute had requested the district administration to get the Covid test of all the students and others done who were housed in the institution numbering around 1,600.
It’s worth mentioning here that students of the first year had joined the institution only this week and the way the students had become positive had created a scare in the institution and its vicinity.
A spokesman of the Health Department said that the teams of the department would conduct tests of the students of the staff and students of the NIT, Hamirpur so that they might not become carriers to the virus among the local community.(UNI)
