30 Ministers, MLAs test positive, 3rd wave forecast

Mumbai, Jan 1 : More than 10 Ministers and as many as 20 MLAs in Maharashtra have tested Corona positive, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said Today, warning that a third wave of the virus appeared imminent.

Pawar urged people to follow strictly the Covid-19 norms and said that if the cases kept rising, strict restrictions would be imposed in the state.

On Friday, 8,067 Covid cases were reported, as much as 50 per cent more than the previous day. Of this, 5,428 were from Mumbai alone.

“Keep in mind that the new variant (Omicron) spreads fast and hence caution is needed,” Pawar underlined. “Some states have already announced a night curfew.”

He said that most cases in Maharashtra were reported from Mumbai and Pune.

Pawar said the state government was keeping a tab on the swelling number.

“If the number continues to rise, there will be strict restrictions. To avoid this, everybody should follow the norms.”

He added that if the present pace continued, “there is very soon a possibility of a third wave of Covid-19 in the state”.(UNI)
