1971 Indo-Pak War: Victory Flame to arrive at Southern Command HQ in Pune tomorrow

Pune, Sep 30 : To mark 50 years of historic accomplishment of one of the greatest military victories of Indian Armed Forces in Indo-Pak War of 1971, the Southern Command Pune, alongwilth civil administration, will be hosting a first-of-its kind month-long celebrations from October 1 to 30 at several locations in city.
As part of ongoing celebrations across the nation, one of the four Victory Flames that had flagged off from National War Memorial, Delhi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec 16, 2020, will be given a grand reception on its arrival here at Sarhad College, Katraj on Friday morning at 0800 hours, an official release said here on Thursday.
The Victory Flame will then move through Pune City, escorted by a team of women bikers, to the Council Hall where it would be received by Pune Mayor Murildhar Mohol, alongwith commissioner and other civil dignitaries.
Thereafter, cultural events with fanfare will follow at the Council Hall.
Then, the Victory Flame will be carried by participants in a relay run from the Council Hall to the Southern Command War Memorial. Dhanraj Pillai, the Indian hockey legend, alongwith Olympians and gallantry award winners of 1971 War will form part of the relay run.
At the War Memorial, it will be received by Lieutenant General J S Nain, GOC-in-C, Southern Command.
Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Mr Md Lutfor Rahman will also be in attendance as a representative of Bangladesh and the friendship shared between the two nations, the release added.(UNI)
