Prof. Lal: Sanskrit is the foundation of Indian civilization.

JAMMU, JUNE 14 : Advocating learning of Sanskrit language among young children, Prof Bechan Lal, the vice chancellor of Cluster University on Friday said that being one of the oldest language Sanskrit is not just a language but the soul of Indian culture.

He said there is a great need for parents to make their children compulsorily learn Sanskrit.
A one day seminar was organized by Sanskrit Department, Jammu University in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Shree Kashmi Vidvat Parishad on Friday.

During the inauguration session, Head of the Department Prof. Ram Bahadur Shukla planted a Rudraksha plant in the campus in the presence of Lal.

As Saraswat Guest, Prof. Parikshit Singh Manhas Chairman, JKBOSE said that Sanskrit language is the most ancient language of the state. The importance of its knowledge gives a positive direction to children in studies.

Padmshri Prof. Vishwamurthy Shastri, President of Shri Kashi Vidvat Parishad, expressed concern over the status of Sanskrit in the state. He said: “Our state was a centre of knowledge and science along with Sanskrit language but today the situation here is disappointing.”
Arts Faculty Chairperson Prof. Sucheta Pathania said in order to uplift Sanskrit, the society must work together and preserve Indian culture.

In the second session, SP Saraswat, Nodal Principal Jammu said knowledge of Indian tradition is inherent in Sanskrit. He said that Indians need to learn the lesson of preserving tradition from countries like Japan, Bhutan, Tibet.

As many as 54 professors of the college as well as 100 research scholars participated in the program.(UNI)
